Roslyn Shorter is a recognized icon in the Houston and Harris County area and is a candidate for Harris County District Clerk. She has an extensive background in community service, including, but not limited to, serving on city planning and community improvement advisory committees, education advocacy, mentorship, and political empowerment. Not only is she a "community champion," but she is also a business executive, possessing excellent organizational development skills, which she has even utilized in the political arena for years, on the local, state, and national levels. "Rozzy," as she is affectionately called, has an impressive track record as a proven leader, which includes management experience in both the public and private sectors. In addition to being a well-known campaign advisor, in political circles, Rozzy has a long-documented history of mentoring youth and young adults in the area's undeserved communities.
Rozzy currently serves as Vice Chair of the City of Houston's Friends of Edgewood Community Development Board, led by City Councilman Dwight Boykins. Rozzy has also served as Co-Chair of the Houston C.A.R.E.S. Mentoring Movement, which is a non-profit organization. Additionally, she has worked as a volunteer for the Children's Defense Fund Freedom School and serves as a mentor for the Men of L.E.G.A.C.I. Male Minority Initiative at the University of Houston-Downtown. Politically, Rozzy has served as the Chair of Operations and Logistics for the Texas Senate District 13 Convention; Obama for America Caucus Trainer; and she was voted to represent the Senate District as Democratic National Committeewoman at the Texas State Convention. Recently, Rozzy was part of Hillary Clinton's Super Volunteers, Texas and National Faith-Based Initiative Team, during the 2016 Presidential Election. She has accomplished all of this, while at the same time working for corporate america for the last 20 years, in the field of international business travel, where she is constantly interacting with people from all walks of life, which shows the selfless dedication she has exhibited throughout her adult life.
Professionally, Rozzy currently works as a leader, in international business travel, for a corporate "Giant," where she directly manages a team of employees. She also directs her own business, where she is continuously interfacing with the public, in a customer-centered environment, to ensure the highest caliber of service possible. Rozzy has also worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, gaining first-hand knowledge of the prison pipeline, and the recidivism problems that face the Harris County Court System daily. This greater understanding of the Justice System, coupled with a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Minor in Critical Race Studies, a Masters of Science Degree in Leadership from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, infused with strong business acumen, people skills, as well as, her employee management abilities make Roslyn "Rozzy" Shorter the best candidate to lead the Harris County District Clerk's Office.
